Tasks

Summary

An Auxillary fuel tank to fit in the truck bed of a 2021 GMC Sierra. The tank needs to fit under a sled deck while also providing a capacity of at least 70 gallons. The setup will feature a high flow transfer pump for fueling power sport vehicles and a standard fuel pump for on the go fueling of the Silverado. The tank must be able to be filled from the to side of the sled deck and allow for easy removal during non-winter months.

The tank was TIG welded from 1/8″ aluminum sheet.

Common bungs were utilized and many other weld on parts were made in house ( sender bung, fill bung, mounts)

Aeroquip fittings and braided hoses were used for the standard fuel pump side, along with ball valves for extra security.

The high flow pump was mounted in the truck bed with the pump handle mounted for easy access. Both pumps were conveniently wired to factory switches in the cabin for a clean install.

Design

3D CAD Modeling

We took appropriate measurements of the clients vehicle and modeled it and the tank in 3D that offers a realistic representation for client approval.

Safety

We designed the tank so that it will adhere to safety standards.

Prioritys

The client desired a tank up to 70 gallons and would withstand offroad type conditions. The tank holds approximately 75 gallons and is mounted in a "floating" fashion to accommodate any twisting/movement that may impact the truck bed.
